When we set out a building we need to use the "Site Plan" which will give us a range of basic information such as footprint of the building, existing structures, heights, set backs from boundaries, orientation of building and vegetation removal.
Once we have this information we then need to mark out the building footprint and set up hurdles on the wall lines. We then attach string lines to these.
Checking building for square.
We always check the building for square using 2 of the longest sides. We can either use a 3,4,5 triangle or corner to corner.
Once you are satisfied that the building is square you can mark out the other wall lines.
We can now mark out the stump holes or trench lines depending on the building system (sub floor or slab). These need to be dug to the specified depth on the plan (min 450mm).
Setting up stumps
Once all our stump holes are dug we concrete stumps into the ground on the inside of the line. We need to make sure the stumps are plumb and in line for the bearers to sit on top of.
Remember stumps always sit on the external perimeter of the building and at spacings as per the building code. They also need to be under any point load in the frame.
Stumps never sit on the ground and always have a "sole plate" of concrete under them.
